Urban Formation, Spatial Information and Urban Economies

We investigate how cities emerge and evolve as spatial expressions of social, economic and technological forces.

Our work looks into the place of cities within the morphospace of possible settlements, the role of the division of labour in urban formation, and the ways built environments encode information about spatial cultures, land uses, land values, and new urban economies. Together, these approaches explore why cities became the dominant spatial formation and how their built environments register both long-term spatial cultures and contemporary transformations in urban life.
