Maria Fiszon obtained her PhD in Architecture and Urbanism at Universidade Federal Fluminense (PPGAU-UFF). Her research agenda is centered on urban economics and the dynamics of real estate markets, with particular emphasis on urban land value formation and its relationship to spatial inequalities. She investigates how financialization, touristification and market behavior shape housing production and access in cities. Her thesis examines the impacts of sharing economy, especially Airbnb, on real estate and how it relates to tourists sharing urban spaces with the local population. Her research also engages with segregation studies, exploring patterns of inequality and accessibility across urban areas through empirical and data-driven approaches. Her main research interests include:
• Sharing economy: the impact of digital platforms in urban dynamics;
• Land use and land value theories,identifying emerging variables that shape land value dynamics;
• Segregation studies, focusing on patterns of inequality and accessibility across urban áreas;
• Mapping forms of segregation in different disciplinary fields since the beginning of the 20th century, including the proposition of an ontology of segregation and the creation of the Segregation Wiki (https://segregationwiki.org/).
