Otávio Aguiar

Otávio L. J. Aguiar is a master’s student in Spatial Planning and Urban Project at the University of Porto. Architect and Urban Planner graduated from the Catholic University of Pernambuco (UNICAP), his transition from design practice to urban research was consolidated through his award in the Travessias Capibaribe competition, a reurbanization project for riverside neighborhoods in Recife. This work laid the groundwork for his interest in socio-spatial dynamics and in developing a critical approach to the city.

Since then, he has dedicated his professional practice and research to the urban scale, investigating how the design of cities shapes human experience.

His research interests include the study of urban morphologies and typologies, with particular attention to the physical and invisible barriers that fragment territory, the analysis of patterns of segregation, and the development of critical approaches to urban planning and design aimed at creating more accessible public spaces.
